The tool uses item price, shipping and insurance as a simplified customs-value estimate. It applies the selected duty rate, then estimates 5% import VAT on the customs value plus estimated duty and any customs or import fees entered. Courier charges are shown separately.
No. Five per cent is a common standard rate, but tariff classification, origin, exemptions and customs procedures can change the result. Use the custom or confirmed-exempt option only when you have verified it.
Dubai Customs Notice 9/2021 excludes tobacco and its derivatives, electronic smoking devices and tools, nicotine liquids, alcoholic beverages and foods containing alcohol from the customs-duty exemption.
The cited notice expressly exempts qualifying goods from customs duty. It does not state a general VAT exemption, so this calculator continues to estimate 5% import VAT unless another VAT treatment has been confirmed.
The authority or carrier may use a different customs value, HS classification, origin treatment, exchange rate, customs fee or courier charge. Restricted goods and commercial quantities can also require different procedures.
